'A Book of Mystery and Vision' is one of Waite's works on occultism. Arthur Edward Waite was born on the 2nd of October, 1857 in America. After the death of his father, Waite and his mother returned to her native England, where he was raised in North London, attending St. Charles' College from the age of thirteen. Waite left school to become a clerk, but also wrote verse in his spare time. The death of his sister, Frederika Waite, in 1874 soon attracted him into psychical research. Waite became a prolific author with many of his works being well received in academic circles. He wrote occult texts on subjects including divination, esotericism, Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry and ceremonial magic, Kabbalism, and alchemy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DOUBTLESS the very greatest poetry would follow at a certain disadvantage a preface that claimed so much for it as Mr. Waite claims in his preface for these latest verses of his; it is saying a great deal, therefore, when one has to acknowledge that even suffering under this disadvantage the poems that make up his " Book of Mystery and Vision " impress one not only with a sense of the depth and greatness of the thought they embody, but every here and there also by their high imaginative and poetical qualities. Mr. Waite claims to have given adequate utterance here for the first time in poetical literature to the sacramental significance of the universe, though it may seem to some of us that revelations of this same mystic significance shine or glimmer elusively through almost all the great poetry that has ever been written. However this may be, it is sufficient that Mr. Waite does fulfill his purpose, and in these poems of his more or less clearly and beautifully shadows forth in living words something of the inner spiritual life and meaning that is mystically symbolized to the seeing eye in every manifestation of nature, for- "-in those moments, rarely known, When the soul feels her wings, Emblazoned upon star and stone There flash immortal things; Through Nature's gates wide open thrown A wild voice sings and sings. Comes secret sense through veils confessed, And God eludes no more, But doth most surely manilest, And all His worlds restore; Methinks that word of peace and rest High-seated saints read o'er. Lost word and last word, far and long, Heard through the closing gate, Dies the dim echo of thy song! Soul, is it dark and late? Vast is the void, though hope is strong, We languish, but await." This quest of the Lost Word, the truth that has been forgotten or has never yet been found, is the keynote of much that is best in the book. If there were space here for quotations one might quote passages memorable for their music or their beauty of thought or expression from " The Morality of the Lost Word," a dramatic " mystery " play, or from such shorter poems as " How I came to the sea," "How I also sang Mass," "To you in absence," "Valete," and some half-dozen others. There is true gold of poetry in the book, and often more of real thought and suggestiveness in a single page than would go to the making of a whole volume of average minor verse.

This book was released on 2013-12-26 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the ysteries of Harry Potter: Books 1-4 shows would-be sleuths how to hunt for JK Rowling’s clues in a fun-to-read manner. With this Guide in one hand and the Harry Potter books in the other, you’ll read the series in a whole new light as you: -- uncover the detail with which Rowling has crafted her story and her world -- delve below the surface to ferret out Rowling’s sly clues Not only will you be amazed at how deceptively Rowling’s hidden those clues, you’ll learn how to discover new ones on your own! There are questions in Books 1-4 Rowling still hasn’t answered, even after Book 6! Do you know what they are? The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter is for you if: -- You’re new to the series and want a leg up or -- You’ve read all the books, but it’s been a while. Pull out your memories for another look and tighten your skills! Do you know how to solve Snape's poison bottle puzzle in the room "through the trapdoor?" Did you know there are actually 2 solutions to that puzzle? Do you know what Rowling told us in the first four books about the secrets Neville and Professor Snape hold? Do you understand exactly how Dumbledore's "Mirror of Erised" worked? (Rowling’s said we’ll see it again!) Are you aware that what Harry saw in the Mirror was not accurate? Here’s what the Guide says about spotting a clue: "In chapter 16 of Book 1, J.K. Rowling writes that Harry 'watched an owl flutter toward the school across the bright blue sky, a note clamped in its mouth.' Even after reading the book several times, it still catches readers by surprise when they realize that this note was the message used to trick Headmaster Dumbledore into leaving the school for a trip to London. That clue doesn't help us solve the plot of the book and it was never explained or mentioned again, but when we then see a similar clue in Book 4, we need to pay much closer attention! Look for yourself - it's awesome!" The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter is best read alongside JK Rowling’s books—not as a replacement! It does not give the plot away in advance, but there IS a spoiler warning because it discusses the endings of each of the books in chronological order. No Harry Potter collection is complete without the Guide. Written by fans for fans, it is the perfect holiday gift for the Potter fan in your life—or yourself!

Book excerpt: Academy Award–winning director Errol Morris turns his eye to the nature of truth in photography In his inimitable style, Errol Morris untangles the mysteries behind an eclectic range of documentary photographs. With his keen sense of irony, skepticism, and humor, Morris shows how photographs can obscure as much as they reveal, and how what we see is often determined by our beliefs. Each essay in this book is part detective story, part philosophical meditation, presenting readers with a conundrum, and investigates the relationship between photographs and the real world they supposedly record. Believing Is Seeing is a highly original exploration of photography and perception, from one of America’s most provocative observers.

Book excerpt: This book is a resource to enable scholars and students in Yeats studies to explore the materials in his library, which, together with his unpublished papers and manuscripts, forms part of the writer’s archive in the National Library. Generally, this first volume describes the evidence that he and his wife, George, left in books by other authors, including extensive indications of close reading and thinking on a surprising range of subjects. This book could not have been written without the generous participation of the Yeats family over many years. Their legacy, now entrusted to the National Library, is robust and endless in potential. This book is about individual cases but also the building of an oeuvre. In short, this book enriches our understanding of Yeats’s accomplishment as a writer in over fifty years of creative effort and nearly seventy-four years of abundant life.

This brief overview of Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery tells you what you need to know—before or after you read Robert Kolker’s book. Crafted and edited with care, Worth Books set the standard for quality and give you the tools you need to be a well-informed reader. This short summary and analysis of Lost Girls includes: Chapter-by-chapter overviews Character profiles Detailed timeline of events Important quotes and analysis Fascinating trivia Glossary of terms Supporting material to enhance your understanding of the original work About Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker: In December 2010, the remains of four missing women were found just outside a secluded community on the south shore of Long Island. As more bodies were uncovered, Suffolk County police began to suspect that a serial killer was targeting prostitutes online. The ensuing investigation pitted families against police, and neighbor against neighbor, as the authorities struggled with an increasingly unwieldy case. Lost Girls gives a detailed account of the victims, the investigators, and the community. Relying on exhaustive interviews with those who knew and loved the victims, Kolker creates a sensitive portrait of each woman. He offers insight into how prostitution has changed in the Internet age, and the high costs we continue to pay by ignoring the sex workers who take part in a ubiquitous, if unseen, profession. The summary and analysis in this ebook are intended to complement your reading experience and bring you closer to a great work of nonfiction.
