Book Synopsis Quantum Chromodynamics at High Energy by : Yuri V. Kovchegov
Download or read book Quantum Chromodynamics at High Energy written by Yuri V. Kovchegov and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filling a gap in the current literature, this book is the first entirely dedicated to high energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD) including parton saturation and the color glass condensate (CGC). It presents groundbreaking progress on the subject and describes many problems at the forefront of research, bringing postgraduate students, theorists and interested experimentalists up to date with the current state of research in this field. The material is presented in a pedagogical way, with numerous examples and exercises. Discussion ranges from the quasi-classical McLerran–Venugopalan model to the linear BFKL and nonlinear BK/JIMWLK small-x evolution equations. The authors adopt both a theoretical and an experimental outlook, and present the physics of strong interactions in a universal way, making it useful for physicists from various subcommunities of high energy and nuclear physics, and applicable to processes studied at all high energy accelerators around the world. Book Synopsis Multiparticle Dynamics - Proceedings Of The Xxvi International Symposium by : Jorge Dias De Deus
Download or read book Multiparticle Dynamics - Proceedings Of The Xxvi International Symposium written by Jorge Dias De Deus and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-05-29 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the most recent results on multiparticle production. These include the differences between quark and gluon jets from LEP at CERN, the search for the disoriented chiral condensate at Fermilab, the existence (or not) of the quark-gluon plasma and the large rapidity gaps in Hera physics. In many different experimental situations, the subject of multiparticle dynamics remains alive.Main speakers: J Antos, B J May, J D Bjorken, P Sondereger, I Tserruya, R C Hwa, R Ugoccioni, A Giovannini, C Grupen, A de Angelis, G Thompson, J Kwiecinski, B Andersson.
Book Synopsis Particle Cosmology and Astrophysics by : Dan Hooper
Download or read book Particle Cosmology and Astrophysics written by Dan Hooper and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A graduate-level introduction to the interface between particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology This book explores the exciting interface between the fields of cosmology, high-energy astrophysics, and particle physics, at a level suitable for advanced undergraduate- to graduate-level students as well as active researchers. Without assuming a strong background in particle physics or quantum field theory, the text is designed to be accessible to readers from a range of backgrounds and presents both fundamentals and modern topics in a modular style that allows for flexible use and easy reference. It offers coverage of general relativity and the Friedmann equations, early universe thermodynamics, recombination and the cosmic microwave background, Big Bang nucleosynthesis, the origin and detection of dark matter, the formation of large-scale structure, baryogenesis and leptogenesis, inflation, dark energy, cosmic rays, neutrino and gamma-ray astrophysics, supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, sterile neutrinos, and axions. The book also includes numerous worked examples and homework problems, many with solutions. Particle Cosmology and Astrophysics provides readers with an invaluable entrée to this cross-disciplinary area of research and discovery. Accessible to advanced undergraduate to graduate students, as well as researchers in cosmology, high-energy astrophysics, and particle physics Does not assume a strong background in particle physics or quantum field theory and contains two chapters specifically for readers with no background in particle physics Broad scope, covering many topics across particle physics, astrophysics, and particle cosmology Modular presentation for easy reference and flexible use Provides more than 200 homework problems, many with solutions Ideal for course use or self-study and reference

Book Synopsis Introduction to High Energy Physics by : Donald H. Perkins
Download or read book Introduction to High Energy Physics written by Donald H. Perkins and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-04-13 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly-regarded text provides a comprehensive introduction to modern particle physics. Extensively rewritten and updated, this 4th edition includes developments in elementary particle physics, as well as its connections with cosmology and astrophysics. As in previous editions, the balance between experiment and theory is continually emphasised. The stress is on the phenomenological approach and basic theoretical concepts rather than rigorous mathematical detail. Short descriptions are given of some of the key experiments in the field, and how they have influenced our thinking. Although most of the material is presented in the context of the Standard Model of quarks and leptons, the shortcomings of this model and new physics beyond its compass (such as supersymmetry, neutrino mass and oscillations, GUTs and superstrings) are also discussed. The text includes many problems and a detailed and annotated further reading list.
Book Synopsis Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum Ii by : Nora Serafina Brambilla
Download or read book Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum Ii written by Nora Serafina Brambilla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-05-03 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The confinement mechanism of the quarks in QCD is one of the most challenging and open problems in physics. Confinement is a nonperturbative phenomenon, and a definite way to handle it has not yet been found in field theory. There are lattice calculations that can produce the low-lying states of the spectrum and 'measure' many important physical quantities, but nevertheless the development of analytical techniques is of extreme importance for understanding the physics involved in confinement. In this respect it is important to test the results obtained directly from the theory (Bethe-Salpeter kernel, effective Hamiltonians, quark potential, etc.) on the spectrum, form factors and decays of bound states of quarks and gluons, and to relate them to the results of lattice theory. In this book, the question of the confinement mechanism is addressed; explanations in terms of monopoles, instantons and dyons are reviewed and the connection with duality is discussed.
