Book Synopsis Effects of Blends of Cement Kiln Dust and Fly Ash on Properties of Concrete by : Hamdi Celik Ozyildirim
Download or read book Effects of Blends of Cement Kiln Dust and Fly Ash on Properties of Concrete written by Hamdi Celik Ozyildirim and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study evaluated concretes containing cement kiln dust (CKD) and fly ash to determine whether satisfactory properties can be achieved for long-lasting performance in the field. The results indicate that certain combinations of cement, CKD, and fly ash may provide concretes with acceptable performance. A determination of acceptable combinations will require extensive study which was beyond the scope of this project. Excessive expansions occurred when CKD blends were used in mortars subjected to cyclic wetting and drying at a temperature of 80°C (176°F). The addition of CKD to fly ash concrete did not improve strength development, but did reduce the coulomb values (AASHTO T 277or ASTM C 1202) at early ages, indicating reduced chloride permeability. However, at later ages fly ash concretes containing cement with an alkali content of 0.70% or above had very low coulomb values indicating high resistance to chloride penetration irrespective of the alkali activation.

Book Synopsis Concrete at High Temperatures by : Zdeněk P. Bažant
Download or read book Concrete at High Temperatures written by Zdeněk P. Bažant and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1996 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increased use of concrete in high temperature environments, it is essential for engineers to have a knowledge of the properties and mathematical modelling of concrete in such extreme conditions. Bringing together, for the first time, vast amounts of data previously scattered throughout numerous papers and periodicals, this book provides, in two parts, a comprehensive and systematic review of both the properties and the mathematical modelling of concrete at high temperatures. Part I provides a comprehensive description of the material properties of concrete at high temperatures. Assuming only a basic knowledge of mathematics, the information is presented at an elementary level suitable for graduates of civil engineering or materials science. Part II describes the response of concrete to high temperatures in precise terms based on mathematical modelling of physical processes. Suitable for advanced graduate students, researchers and specialists, it presents detailed mathematical models of phenomena such as heat transfer, moisture diffusion, creep, volume changes, cracking and fracture. Concrete at High Temperatures will prove a valuable reference source to university researchers and graduate students in civil engineering and materials science, engineers in research laboratories, and practising engineers concerned with fire resistance, concrete structures for nuclear reactors and chemical technology vessels.

Book Synopsis Peshat and Derash by : David Weiss Halivni
Download or read book Peshat and Derash written by David Weiss Halivni and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-03 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the days of Plato, the problem of the efficacy and adequacy of the written word as a vehicle of human communication has challenged mankind, yet the mystery of how best to achieve clarity and exactitude of written expression has never been solved. The most repercussive instance of this universal problem has been the exegesis of the law embodied in Hebrew scripture. Peshat and Derash is the first book to trace the Jewish interpretative enterprise from a historical perspective. Applying his vast knowledge of Rabbinic materials to the long history of Jewish exegesis of both Bible and Talmud, Halivni investigates the tension that has often existed between the plain sense of the divine text (peshat) and its creative, Rabbinic interpretations (derash). Halivni addresses the theological implications of the deviation of derash from peshat and explores the differences between the ideological extreme of the religious right, which denies that Judaism has a history, and the religious left, which claims that history is all that Judaism has. A comprehensive and critical narration of the history and repercussions of Rabbinic exegesis, this analysis will interest students of legal texts, hermeneutics, and scriptural traditions, as well as anyone involved in Jewish studies.
Book Synopsis High Resolution Solid-State NMR of Silicate and Zeolites by : Günter Engelhardt
Download or read book High Resolution Solid-State NMR of Silicate and Zeolites written by Günter Engelhardt and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers the dramatic developments in the past decade in the applications of high-resolution NMR to the study of solid materials such as inorganic silicates, aluminosilicates, and in particular, zeolites. Also covers a variety of NMR methods, including conventional FT NMR techniques, used to investigate sorbate-sorbent interactions and the structure of adsorbed molecules. Gives an historical background to the subject and a concise survey of basic principles and methods of high-resolution solid-state NMR. Then covers 29Si NMR of silicate solutions; general aspects of 29Si and 27Al NMR of the silicate and aluminosilicate framework; application of 29Si and 27Al NMR to silicates, aluminosilicates, and zeolites; NMR studies of nuclei other than 29Si and 27Al in zeolites and non-zeolitic silicates; high-resolution studies of adsorbed molecules, and much more.

Book Synopsis Tutankhamun's Footwear by : André J. Veldmeijer
Download or read book Tutankhamun's Footwear written by André J. Veldmeijer and published by Sidestone Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of all time. It took Carter and his team 10 years to clear the contents of the tomb and among the objects found was a large collection of shoes and sandals. The footwear is analysed here in detail for the first time since the discovery using Carter's records and Harry Burton's excellent photographs along with the author's analyses of the objects, all of which are housed in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo and the Luxor Museum. Several specialists contributed to the volume discussing the different materials (gold, vegetable fibre, birch bark, glass and faience, leather, gemstones) that were used in the footwear. Tutankhamun's footwear is compared with other finds in order to be able to put it in a broader context. The footwear from the tomb of Yuya and Tjuiu, the King's great-grandparents, are, therefore, analysed as well. In addition to the analysis, footwear in texts and two- and three-dimensional art is considered.
