Book Synopsis Cerebral Blood Flow by : Michael Pinsky
Download or read book Cerebral Blood Flow written by Michael Pinsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cerebral Blood Flow: Quantifying Consciousness Although the heart may be the source of energy needed to generate blood flow, and other organs absolutely essential for normal living, the brain is the reason we are alive. The collected book chapters are aimed at addressing this most fundamental organ and its blood flow. These papers reflect detailed descriptions of similar topics presented over a two-day period as part of the 5th International Symposium on Applied Physiology of the Peripheral Circulation held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in June 2000. The symposium and this volume were organized into four distinct groupings that follow in a logical fashion. The initial papers focus on the basic unique physiology and pathophysiology of the cerebral circulation, including a historical reviewof the means to measure cerebral blood flow and its implications of the past 30 years. Dr. Walter D. Obrist was one of the original investigators to use radiolabeled markers to assess cerebral blood flow. His equations and initial studies form an impressive introduction to where we are now. As with much of the body's special organs, the brain too has many circulatory features unique to itself. These include the unique blood-brain barrier function ofthe endothelium, local neural regulation control, and intracranial pressure effects. These special issues, plus genetic factors that may predispose individuals to developing cere bral aneurysm, make up the initial section of the monograph.
Book Synopsis Practical Imaging Informatics by : Society for Imaging
Download or read book Practical Imaging Informatics written by Society for Imaging and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-03 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attention SIIM Members: a special discount is available to you; please log in to the SIIM website at www.siim.org/pii or call the SIIM office at 703-723-0432 for information on how you can receive the SIIM member price. Imaging Informatics Professionals (IIPs) have come to play an indispensable role in modern medicine, and the scope of this profession has grown far beyond the boundaries of the PACS. A successful IIP must not only understand the PACS itself, but also have knowledge of clinical workflow, a base in several medical specialties, and a solid IT capability regarding software interactions and networking. With the introduction of a certification test for the IIP position, a single source was needed to explain the fundamentals of imaging informatics and to demonstrate how those fundamentals are applied in everyday practice. Practical Imaging Informatics describes the foundations of information technology and clinical image management, details typical daily operations, and discusses rarer complications and issues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GATEWAYS TO DEMOCRACY continues with its framework of "gateways" to help readers conceptualize participation and civic engagement--even democracy itself--with reference to how individuals access the political system. This approach helps readers better see the relevance of government in their lives. GATEWAYS uniquely incorporates policy into a section at the end of each chapter, helping readers better understand the connection between public opinion, policy-making and how public policy applies to their lives. The second edition, complete with 2012 election updates, emphasizes critical thinking by clearly outlining learning outcomes and enhancing learning with self-assessment "Checkpoints" and a clear chapter study plan. Chapters in this ESSENTIALS version are condensed to accommodate a shorter format but preserve the integrity of the text's hallmarks.

Book Synopsis Spectral Multi-Detector Computed Tomography (sMDCT) by : Xiangyang Tang
Download or read book Spectral Multi-Detector Computed Tomography (sMDCT) written by Xiangyang Tang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray computed tomography (CT) has been one of the most popular diagnostic imaging modalities for decades in the clinic for saving patients’ lives or improving their quality of life. This book is an introductory one-stop shop for technological and clinical topics in multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT). Starting with MDCT’s fundamentals in physics and mathematics, the book provides an in-depth introduction to its system architecture and imaging chain, signal detection via energy-integration and photon-counting mechanisms, clinical application-driven scan modes and protocols, analytic and iterative image reconstruction solutions, and spectral imaging – the latest technological advancement in MDCT. The book extends its coverage on image quality assessment under the theory of signal detection and statistical decision. In recognition of its clinical relevance for conspicuity enhancement in angiographic and parenchymal imaging applications, the book features a chapter dedicated to the fundamental (chemical, physical and physicochemical) properties and clinical administration of iodinated contrast agent. The book ends with an outlook of the contrast agents that are novel in material and delivery, and their synergy with spectral MDCT to elevate CT’s contrast resolution in cardiovascular, neurovascular and oncologic applications. This book will be an invaluable reference for researchers, engineers, radiological physicians and technologists, and graduate and senior undergraduate students. Features Provides an accessible introduction to the subject Up to date with the latest advances in emerging technologies and procedures Provides a historical overview of CT technology Xiangyang Tang, PhD, is an imaging scientist with extensive research and development experience in industry (GE Healthcare), academia (Emory University School of Medicine) and the clinic (Emory Healthcare). However, the diagnostic strategy has been extensively modified by the advent of helical computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. This book, the first to focus specifically on ureteral imaging, covers both the new and the traditional techniques. Their use in the variety of scenarios involving ureteral disease is clearly elucidated with the aid of high-quality informative images.
