Download or read book Condensed Matter Studies By Nuclear Methods - Proceedings Of The Xxvi Zakopane School On Physics written by Jan Stanek and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-09-02 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an important textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in structural biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biology and medicine. Written by a team of leading scientists in the field, it covers all the essential aspects of proteins, nucleic acids and lipids, including the rise and fall of proteins, membranes and gradients, the structural biology of cells, and evolution — the comparative structural biology. The focus is on interesting and relevant molecular structures as well as central biology. This comprehensive volume is richly illustrated with more than 200 color figures. So far, there has been a lack of comprehensive textbooks on structural biology that are up to date; this book is written to fill the gap. An accompanying CD contains high-resolution images that can be projected in a classroom.
Book Synopsis Early Stages of Oxygen Precipitation in Silicon by : R. Jones
Download or read book Early Stages of Oxygen Precipitation in Silicon written by R. Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was fOlllld as long ago as 1954 that heating oxygen rich silicon to around 450°C produced electrical active defects - the so called thermal donors. The inference was that the donors were created by some defect produced by the aggregation of oxygen. Since then, there has been an enor mous amount of work carried out to elucidate the detailed mechanism by which they, and other defects, are generated. This task has been made all the more relevant as silicon is one of the most important technological ma terials in everyday use and oxygen is its most common impurity. However, even after forty years, the details of the processes by which the donors and other defects are generated are still obscure. The difficulty of the problem is made more apparent when it is realised that there is only one oxygen atom in about ten thousand silicon atoms and so it is difficult to devise experiments to 'see' what happens during the early stages of oxygen precipitation when complexes of two, three or four 0xygen atoms are formed. However, new important new findings have emerged from experiments such as the careful monitoring of the changes in the infra red lattice absorption spectra over long durations, the observation of the growth of new bands which are correlated with electronic infra-red data, and high resolution ENDOR studies. In addition, progress has been made in the improved control of samples containing oxygen, carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen.
Book Synopsis Positron Spectroscopy of Solids by : Alfredo Dupasquier
Download or read book Positron Spectroscopy of Solids written by Alfredo Dupasquier and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 830 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lifetime of a positron inside a solid is normally less than a fraction of nanosecond. This is a very short time on a human scale, but is long enough to enable the positron to visit an extended region of the material, and to sense the atomic and electronic structure of the environment. Thus, we can inject a positron in a sample to draw from it some signal giving us information on the microscopic properties of the material. This idea has been successfully developed in a number of positron-based techniques of physical analysis, with resolution in energy, momentum, or position. The complex of these techniques is what we call now positron spectroscopy of solids. The field of application of the positron spectroscopy extends from advanced problems of solid-state physics to industrial applications in the area of characterization of high-tech materials. This volume focuses the attention on the physics that can be learned from positron-based methods, but also frames those methods in a wider context including other experimental approaches. It can be considered as a textbook on positron spectroscopy of solids, the sort of book that the newcomer takes for his approach to this field, but also as a useful research tool for the expert.
Book Synopsis Positron Beams And Their Applications by : Paul G Coleman
Download or read book Positron Beams And Their Applications written by Paul G Coleman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-01-22 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a coherent and comprehensive overview of the generation and application of mono-energetic positron beams. It has been written by acknowledged experts, at a level accessible to graduate students working, or planning to work, with positron beams, and to scientists in other areas who want to know something about the field. The book begins with a brief historical introduction and an overview of how positron beams are generated and transported. A description of the fate of slow positrons in gaseous and condensed matter, with reference to many of the fundamental measurements made possible by the advent of positron beams, is followed by a discussion on applications in the study of solid surfaces, defect profiling in subsurface regions, interfaces and thin films, and the probing of bulk properties in novel ways. The book ends with a look at the future, considering the prospects for intense positron beams and their potential for further research.

Download or read book Physics with Many Positrons written by Alfredo Dupasquier and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the exception of positron emission tomography (PET), the field of low energy positron science produces relatively few academic articles each year compared to more accessible fields. Though much has been achieved since the publication of two related volumes earlier in this series: Positron Solid State Physics (1981) and Positron Spectroscopy of Solids (1993), only the first steps have been made towards 'physics with many positrons': physical situations where the interactions of positrons with positrons can be observed. This 2009 "Enrico Fermi School" aims to stimulate the field o.
