Book Synopsis Basin Analysis in Petroleum Exploration by : P.G. Teleki
Download or read book Basin Analysis in Petroleum Exploration written by P.G. Teleki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume summarizes in 16 chapters the petroleum geology of the Békés basin with respect to its geological setting in the Pannonian Basin. The work was accomplished by a joint effort of the Hungarian Oil and Gas Co. and U.S. Geological Survey. In contrast with other books that discuss the geology of Hungary, this volume identifies, in detail, potential source rocks and reservoir rocks, and evaluates the maturation, generation, migration, and entrapment of hydrocarbons. The outstanding points are: (1) its summary of the petroleum geology of the Békés basin with respect to its structural and sedimentological setting in the Pannonian Basin; (2) the identification of geographic areas, structural trends and stratigraphic zones that remain relatively unexplored; and (3) a summary of `petroleum plays' with an assessment of their recoverable, undiscovered resources of oil and gas. This book is primarily for petroleum geologists interested in oil and gas exploration in Hungary, and earth scientists interested in the geology of the Pannonian Basin.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in the Theory of Third-Degree Price Discrimination by : Takanori Adachi
Download or read book Recent Advances in the Theory of Third-Degree Price Discrimination written by Takanori Adachi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-06 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an updated overview of the recent progress in the theoretical study of third-degree price discrimination. It is a marketing tactic and is said to be present if the unit price is different across different groups of buyers. Its welfare evaluation is often difficult because it entails two countervailing effects: on one hand, it exploits surplus from consumers who have high willingness-to-pay, but on the other hand, it generates gains from trade from consumers who otherwise would not purchase the good. Recognizing this difficulty, we provide new insights on evaluation of third-degree price discrimination in consideration of network effects and vertical product differentiation. Our analysis is particularly useful for the industries related to information and communication technologies (ICT) because these two elements characterize them. Furthermore, we also study the welfare effects of third-degree price discrimination under imperfect competition other than monopoly. At first, it seems that it may complicate the analysis under monopoly. However, we argue that the main thrusts of analysis under monopoly carry over to the case of oligopoly. We also take into account behavioral aspects and their implications for studying third-degree price discrimination. Overall, this book is designed to provide implications for contemporary management and policy issues by advancing theoretical issues in industrial organization.

Book Synopsis Quantum Theory of Bulk and Nanostructure Crystals by : Rostam Moradian
Download or read book Quantum Theory of Bulk and Nanostructure Crystals written by Rostam Moradian and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on bulk and nanostructure crystals, and specifically discusses possible crystal lattices, their reciprocal lattices, and the Bragg relation for determining crystal structure. It describes band theory in independent electron approximation using the usual perturbation quantum theory, as well as how the internal electric field of the lattice periodic potential affects degenerate states at the Brillouin zone boundaries by using the Stark effect, which leads to energy bands separated by energy gaps. The book also discusses low-dimensional systems and nanostructures using the free electron model and tight binding model. The band structure and wave function of graphene, graphene nanoribbons, single-wall carbon nanotubes, and double-wall carbon nanotubes are obtained. Additionally, nanostructure vibrations are discussed. This text is for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as researchers who are interested in working on different condensed matter physics subjects. We use simple methods to introduce and explain the initial concepts of crystal structure physics to undergraduate students.

Book Synopsis Late Pleistocene Archaeology and Ecology in the Far Northeast by : Claude Chapdelaine
Download or read book Late Pleistocene Archaeology and Ecology in the Far Northeast written by Claude Chapdelaine and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Far Northeast, a peninsula incorporating the six New England states, New York east of the Hudson, Quebec south of the St. Lawrence River and Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the Maritime Provinces, provided the setting for a distinct chapter in the peopling of North America. Late Pleistocene Archaeology and Ecology in the Far Northeast focuses on the Clovis pioneers and their eastward migration into this region, inhospitable before 13,500 years ago, especially in its northern latitudes. Bringing together the last decade or so of research on the Paleoindian presence in the area, Claude Chapdelaine and the contributors to this volume discuss, among other topics, the style variations in the fluted points left behind by these migrating peoples, a broader disparity than previously thought. This book offers not only an opportunity to review new data and interpretations in most areas of the Far Northeast, including a first glimpse at the Cliche-Rancourt Site, the only known fluted point site in Quebec, but also permits these new findings to shape revised interpretations of old sites. The accumulation of research findings in the Far Northeast has been steady, and this timely book presents some of the most interesting results, offering fresh perspectives on the prehistory of this important region.
