Book Synopsis Bringing War to Book by : Rachel Woodward
Download or read book Bringing War to Book written by Rachel Woodward and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how military memoirs come to be written and published. Looking at the journeys through which soldiers and other military personnel become writers, the authors draw on over 250 military memoirs published since 1980 about service with the British armed forces, and on interviews with published military memoirists who talk in detail about the writing and production of their books. A range of themes are explored including: the nature of the military memoir; motivations for writing; authors’ reflections on their readerships; inclusions and exclusions within the text; the memories and materials that authors draw on; the collaborations that make the production and publication of military memoirs possible; and the issues around the design of military memoirs' distinctive covers. Written by two leading commentators on the sociology of the military, Bringing War to Book offers a new and original argument about the representations of war and the military experience as a process of social production. The book will be of interest to students and scholars across a range of disciplines including sociology, history, and cultural studies.

Download or read book Triing written by Doug Morris and published by Palm Trees Ahead, LLC. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triing takes you on a journey of triathlon racing in all 50 states and on six continents. Learn how Doug embarked on the worldwide adventure to meet people, experience different cultures, travel the globe, develop life skills, and fulfill lingering athletic goals. It's a first-person memoir that any triathlete can relate to and will definitely feel that they are reading about their own challenges, successes, and memories of racing no matter where their events took place. It will probably motivate you to continue creating your own storyline of a triathlete's life. Morris chose triathloning as a segment in his life for continual learning. The book examines how you can define journeys that convert your dreams into reality. Examples include how to apply cross-functional skills in personal, professional, and athletic endeavors. Various trips will highlight how to recognize more similarities than differences in new cultures and geographical locations. Discover how calculated risk choices stimulate actions while passive mindsets of wants, wishes, and hopes reduce the odds of reaching goals. Consider how race challenges substantiate why to be persistent and resilient in overcoming unwelcomed challenges. Uncover how time management hacks can mitigate time poverty. Recall how coaching in your life from pre-teens to current continues to deliver benefits and validate that different situations require different tactics. Finally, explore how to excel in your sport’s life with answers to some not so frequently asked questions. The mashup of exciting race stories in Triing reveal unexpected discoveries, unwelcomed challenges, and unabated camaraderie in the competitive global tri community. All of these are relatable to events in your life. Here's what some people said about stories in the book: • "I thoroughly enjoyed Triing! Every chapter was very entertaining. I will recommend this book to all my triathlon friends." • "So much detail. So much knowledge shared. What a journey! Doug's "been there and done that." From the infancy of the sport of Triathlon in the 80s to modern times. From Sprint distances to Ironman. From tiny local races to massive 4K participant international productions. From perfectly executed races to self-imposed meltdowns. Your ability to overcome those disasters is a lesson for everyone. This book has it all. What a great read." • “…Great read… talented writer…two enthusiastic thumbs up...” • "My favorite Triathlon book."

Book Synopsis Atlantic Canadian Imprints by : Patricia Lockhart Fleming
Download or read book Atlantic Canadian Imprints written by Patricia Lockhart Fleming and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1991-12-15 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive analytical bibliography of Atlantic Canadian imprints, this volume covers some 320 books, pamphlets, broadsides, government publications, and serials. Most have not been listed before in any bibliography or catalogue. They represent the holdings of more than thirty libraries and archives in the four Atlantic provinces, and in Ontario, Quebec, the United States, and England. Each entry follows the principles of descriptive bibliography and includes full collation, contents, record of paper, type, and binding, analysis of issue and state, and location of every copy examined. Historical notes deal with authorship, printing, publishing, distribution and sales, and with the content of important works and the relationship between items. Arrangement is by province, then by year of publication. The material catalogued encompasses a wide range of subjects. God and government are two of the most common, but there are many others: education, municipal organization, history, elections, transportation, agriculture, legal trials, and a number of societies—benevolent, national, religious, and masonic. There are also many almanacs, including one in German, several satires and addresses in verse, and a French abécédaire. Not surprisingly in a nineteenth-century Maritime bibliography, signal books and decisions about piracy abound. Six indexes provide access by author, title, genre, trades, place of publication, and language. Patricia Fleming’s work continues Marie Tremaine’s A Bibliography of Canadian Imprints, 1751–1800 and supplements that work with new and previously unlocated imprints. It adds an essential element to our understanding of print communication in Atlantic Canada.
