Book excerpt: In 31 Days, acclaimed historian Barry Werth takes readers inside the White House during the tumultuous days of August 1974, following Richard Nixon's resignation and the swearing-in of America's "accidental president," Gerald Ford. The Watergate scandal had torn the country apart. In a dramatic, day-by-day account of the new administration’s inner workings, Werth shows how Ford, caught between political expedience, the country’s demands for justice, and his own moral compass, struggled valiantly to restore the nation’s tarnished faith in its leadership. With deft and refreshing analysis Werth illuminates how this unprecedented political upheaval produced new fissures and battle lines, as well as new opportunities for political advancement for ambitious young men such as Donald Rumsfeld, who had been Nixon’s ambassador to NATO, and Dick Cheney, already coolly efficient as Rumsfeld’s former deputy. A superbly crafted presidential history with all of the twists and turns of a thriller, 31 Days sheds new light on the key players and political dilemmas that reverberate in today’s headlines.

Book excerpt: Christine Malinda Peart is a United States Air Force veteran and a retiree from the Department of Defense. All told, she dedicated 23 years of willing service to her country. Christine has lived with an autoimmune disease called Polymyositis, with Antisynthetase Syndrome and Interstitial Lung Disease for 14 years now. She spends her time encouraging and educating others to live life in a positive way, no matter what illness or trial might arise. The medical personnel have told her that she would have a shortened life span. After much fervent prayer, Christine let go of the things she had no control over and accepted that God was in control. She says, "I realized the Bible was clear on how I needed to approach my illness. It instructed me to use eight fundamental principles to achieve optimum health: Rest, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Air, Nutrition, Temperance, and Trust." Christine's faith has helped thousands of people realize that even after they have been diagnosed with an illness, they too can find happiness and success. Christine and her husband Richard do not believe in letting her disability stop her from living life; one of her favorite scriptures is 2 Corinthians 12:8-9: "Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.'" Now Christine is glad to boast about her weakness so that the power of Christ can work through her. Enjoy and daily receive strength and courage to answer yes to "Wilt Thou Be Made Whole." For more information, visit: http: //www.refocusonu.com/

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHEN DIVORCE NEEDS TO BECOME HEALING Divorce brings with it feelings and emotions that people usually have never had to experience before. They range from pure anger and despair to pain and loneliness. Don't let the lack of forgiveness and trust cause you to live one more day with pain and discouragement. Let God use His Word and the principles they teach to guide your way as you learn to discover healthy thoughts and actions. Divorce to Healing: 31 Days of Healing and Wholeness will address many of the most common issues surrounding separation and divorce. It will also challenge you to face the hard times head on so that true healing can bring forth wholeness. When God gave me the thought for this devotional, I felt that it needed to have a little different scope and usage than a regular devotional book. First, I wanted something that could be used or started on any day of the month and you would be able to start connecting. Every day is different and I think the concept of days versus chapters made a lot more sense. Second, I wanted to be able to present it in such a way that it could be used over and over again. The title is not 31 days TO or FOR Healing and Wholeness, because we all know that it is a process and just doing a 31 day devotional will not do it for you. Third, I wanted to be able to have a resource that people felt comfortable with using as a measuring stick. By going through the 31 days multiple times, you can see your progress pertaining to each subject. Maybe this month you have no desire to forgive, but within a month or two, it may be something you are willing to address. Fourth, I wanted a resource that people could pick up at any time and refer back to it, especially since the contents have also been listed by subjects to make it easy to find that specific area you desire to read about. Lastly, I wanted something that people would be willing to use and borrow or give away so that it would bless others as well. There are millions of hurting people, just in America, that would love to have something to refer to when they are needing a little extra help. My prayer is that this devotional will be a blessing to help you heal, become whole, and be able to help someone else through what God is doing in you.

Book excerpt: 28 Days of Hope: Beginning the Journey to Sexual Wholeness is a tool to help those desiring change to begin the process. It is through the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit that our lives are transformed. 28 Days of Hope is intended to help the believer who is struggling with sexual brokenness to develop a daily practice of spending time in God's Word, and inviting the Holy Spirit to work in their lives. Each section (devotional) provides a relevant Scripture portion, and a reading that relates the passage to helping overcome the struggle with sexual brokenness. It also includes reflective questions and exercises to help apply the God's Truth, and a suggested prayer to help you invite the Holy Spirit to work in your life.28 Days of Hope contains 28 sections (devotionals), divided into four themes: H-ealing, O-penness, P-urity, E-mpowerment. It is suggested that you set aside 15-20 minutes each day, in a quiet place, to read a section, reflect on the questions, and talk to God (pray). First, work your way through the entire book, and then you can go back and focus on a particular section or sections where you might need more help. It is our prayer that this simple tool will inspire HOPE in you that true change is possible, and help you to begin to take the first steps toward healing and freedom through a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ.
