Book Synopsis When the Kjv Departs from the Majority Text by : J. A. Moorman
Download or read book When the Kjv Departs from the Majority Text written by J. A. Moorman and published by . This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reason For This Book. Prior to the 1980's when Hodges and Farstad published their edition of their so-called Greek "Majority" Text, this was the name which had been given to the Greek Textus Receptus which underlies the King James Bible. Dr. Moorman has given needed clarification to this important matter. The Goal of This Book. One of the goals of this volume is to present the Biblical arguments for God's promise of verbal, plenary, preservation of His Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek Words and His fulfillment of that promise. In addition, two "Majority" Texts are examined; Von Soden's defective work is disclosed; over 90 pages of manuscript digest is listed, and 1 John 5:7-8 is established. The Name of This Book. The title of the book is "When the KJV Departs From the "Majority" Text." The c. 414 manuscripts used for proof are not a "majority" of the over 5,555 manuscripts in existence today. Of the 1,800 MT differences with the TR, about 1/3rd depart from the wording of the KJV. The Usefulness of This Book. This book should prove useful to one who seeks to find the specific differences between the MT and the TR as well as to find the manuscript authority for the Words underlying the King James Bible. The five pages of "Index of Words and Phrases" helps greatly.
Book Synopsis Sexual and Marital Metaphors in Hosea, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Ezekiel by : Sharon Moughtin-Mumby
Download or read book Sexual and Marital Metaphors in Hosea, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Ezekiel written by Sharon Moughtin-Mumby and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2008-06-05 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sharon Moughtin-Mumby considers the often unrecognised impact of different approaches to metaphor on readings of the prophtic sexual and marital metaphorical language. She outlines a practical and consciously simplified approach to metaphor, placing strong emphasis on the influence of literary context on metaphorical meaning. Drawing on this approach, she read Hosea 4-14, Jeremiah 2:1-4:4, Isaiah, Ezekiel 16 and 23, and Hosea 1-3 with fresh eyes. Her lucid new readings reveal the way in which scholarship has repeatedly stifled the prophetic metaphorical language by reading it within the 'default contexts' of 'the marriage metaphor' and 'cultic prostitution', which for so many years have been simply assumed. Readers are encouraged instead to read these diverse metaphors and similes within their distinctive literary contexts in which they have the potential to rise vividly to life, provoking the question: how are we to respond to these disquieting, powerful texts in the midst of the Hebrew Bible?
Download or read book Authorized written by Mark Ward and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The King James Version has shaped the church, our worship, and our mother tongue for over 400 years. But what should we do with it today? The KJV beautifully rendered the Scriptures into the language of turn-of-the-seventeenth-century England. Even today the King James is the most widely read Bible in the United States. The rich cadence of its Elizabethan English is recognized even by non-Christians. But English has changed a great deal over the last 400 years—and in subtle ways that very few modern readers will recognize. In Authorized Mark L. Ward, Jr. shows what exclusive readers of the KJV are missing as they read God's word.#In their introduction to the King James Bible, the translators tell us that Christians must "heare CHRIST speaking unto them in their mother tongue." In Authorized Mark Ward builds a case for the KJV translators' view that English Bible translations should be readable by what they called "the very vulgar"—and what we would call "the man on the street."

Book excerpt: "The doctrine that the King James Version is the only authoritative Bible for English-speaking people has become known as King James Onlyism, taking on the characteristics of a sect. Using evidence from Scripture, history, theology, textual criticism, and ancient and modern Bible versions, this book demonstrates that this doctrine is of recent vintage, being unknown before the mid-twentieth century. It also demonstrates that conservative modern translations of the Bible equally support the cardinal doctrines of Scripture"--Amazon.com.
