Book Synopsis Financial Outlook for the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) by : Thomas P. DiNapoli
Download or read book Financial Outlook for the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) written by Thomas P. DiNapoli and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. The MTA has long suffered from a structural imbalance between recurring revenues and expenses. During the last economic expansion, rather than bringing spending in line with recurring resources, the MTA used tax windfalls from the expansion to mask the structural imbalance between recurring revenue and expenses, and to put off needed reforms. The current economic downturn has compounded the MTA¿s financial problems. The MTA¿s July 2010 financial plan shows an operating budget deficit of more than $1 billion for 2011. The budget deficit is expected to more than double by 2014. The MTA has outlined a gap-closing program that begins the process of changing how the MTA conducts business. Charts and tables.
Book Synopsis Progress Toward Restoring the Everglades by : National Research Council
Download or read book Progress Toward Restoring the Everglades written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve years into the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Project, little progress has been made in restoring the core of the remaining Everglades ecosystem; instead, most project construction so far has occurred along its periphery. To reverse ongoing ecosystem declines, it will be necessary to expedite restoration projects that target the central Everglades, and to improve both the quality and quantity of the water in the ecosystem. The new Central Everglades Planning Project offers an innovative approach to this challenge, although additional analyses are needed at the interface of water quality and water quantity to maximize restoration benefits within existing legal constraints. Progress Toward Restoring the Everglades: The Fourth Biennial Review, 2012 explains the innovative approach to expedite restoration progress and additional rigorous analyses at the interface of water quality and quantity will be essential to maximize restoration benefits.

Book Synopsis Developing an Appropriate Contaminated Land Regime in China by : Xiaobo Zhao
Download or read book Developing an Appropriate Contaminated Land Regime in China written by Xiaobo Zhao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the complex package of mechanisms used to identify, record, manage and remediate contaminated land, including the system for allocating liabilities that has been set up by China’s contaminated land law and accompanying administrative decrees and environmental standards. Statutory control of soil or land contamination is a comparatively new phenomenon for Chinese lawmakers and researchers. After more than ten years of preparation, China recently adopted its first nationwide contaminated land law—the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Soil Contamination, which entered into effect in the beginning of 2019. The law deals exclusively with risk management in connection with soil contamination, and the remediation of contaminated land. This book analyzes various facets of how China is managing the risks associated with soil contamination and remediating contaminated sites by means of legislation. Chapters 1 and 2 reveal the current extent of the soil contamination problem in China and the initial policy responses of the country’s central government. In turn, Chapters 3 and 4 address the regulatory frameworks and the latest contaminated land legislation at both the local and national level. Lastly, Chapters 5 through 9 offer concrete recommendations, based on lessons learned in the US and UK, for reforming contaminated land management in China. Overall, the book covers the past, present and future of contaminated land management in China, making it of interest to environmental policymakers, administrators, academics, lawyers and engineers engaged in soil or environmental protection. Further, it offers a source of reliable information for those who want to learn more about China’s environmental legislation and contaminated land management policy.
Book Synopsis Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives by : Tamara Wilkinson
Download or read book Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives written by Tamara Wilkinson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the best ways for governments to design venture capital investment incentives. Venture capital is a multi-billion-dollar industry and a major driver of innovation and national growth. Investment in startup companies by venture capital funds helps finance new inventions and create wealth, economic growth, and jobs. However, because venture capital investment is highly risky and sensitive to market downturns, many governments around the world use special legal and tax incentives to help encourage this form of investment. Since the introduction of the first venture capital incentive in the USA in 1958, scores of venture capital incentives have come and gone. These incentives have experienced varied success, with some failing entirely. Filling a gap in an important area, this book employs a legal and regulatory approach to examine venture capital policy from a global perspective. It uses an analytical framework to evaluate the design, implementation, and success of incentives, and looks at over 60 examples from 25 countries around the world. The book is aimed at researchers and policy makers in law, finance and economics, as well as practitioners and investors in the venture capital space. The book introduces the legal aspects of venture capital investment and presents a list of leading practice guidelines and recommendations to help policy makers design effective, efficient, and appropriate venture capital incentives.
