Download or read book Black African Neo-diaspora written by Ian E. A. Yeboah and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent large numbers of African immigrants to the United States facilitated by the emergence of globalized labor markets, African immigration to the United States remains an understudied phenomenon. This book provides an intensive study of the experiences of an African immigrant group (Ghanaians) in a smaller Midwestern urban location (the greater Cincinnati area). Black African Neo-Diaspora focuses on why Ghanaians have immigrated to the United States and their travel trajectories to Cincinnati. The author examines the internal social institutions that have emerged within the community to help with integration of members of this group into broader American society, as well as the ways in which Ghanaian immigrants enter the business arena and how their economic activities are changing urban America. Gender dynamics within immigrant families and the identity and socialization of second-generation immigrants are also explored.

Book excerpt: Burckle Publishing announces the new edition of Greater Cincinnati Close-Up. This is the twelfth edition of the ?Indispensable Guide to Cincinnati,? a label given to the book many years ago by newcomers to the area. As always, the content is the most up-to-date information available at press time. This new edition has been expanded to 242 pages, and includes more information on Kentucky and Indiana. It provides highlights for attractions, dining, shopping, communities, and navigation in Greater Cincinnati. The cover has been updated with the new Cincinnati Skyline, showing both stadiums (see the Adobe Acrobat file attached). A fold-out map of the Downtown area of Greater Cincinnati has been completely updated to reflect the changes that have occurred on the river front. On the obverse side is a map of the Metro Region that is useful for planning. First published in 1978 as Cincinnati Without Fears or Tears, it is the oldest continually published guidebook for the Greater Cincinnati area. In 1996, it was updated to reflect a new look and the title changed to Greater Cincinnati Close-Up to keep up with the growth of the Metro Region comprising the 13 county area of Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Coverage, however, is concise and to the point in order to maintain a size (6x9 format just ? inch thin) and weight (only 12.8 oz) suitable for the portability so important to visitors and newcomers. As a special feature, this edition includes a color photo CD, Discover Greater Cincinnati in Pictures, which provides a visual tour in full color of many of Greater Cincinnati?s favorite places and featured institutions. This collection of 60 beautiful photos is produced by Stevie Publishing, Inc. A utility is included for browsing and for installing a screen saver on your computer. This collection of beautiful photos is a functional piece, as well as a lasting keepsake. The images are provided for royalty free use for personal purposes and for certain business uses, such as in advertising. They are in two formats, one for internet use and another to create prints. A full description of the CD is on page vii of the book. This edition is designed for retail at just $16.50 (including the bonus CD which has a retail value of $10.00).

Book Synopsis Would I Lie to You? by : Judi Ketteler
Download or read book Would I Lie to You? written by Judi Ketteler and published by Citadel Press. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An interesting reported memoir about the power of honesty—not surprisingly, a surprisingly honest account.” —Gretchen Rubin, bestselling author of The Happiness Project “Some books change how you think. Some change how you act. Would I Lie to You? does both.” —KJ Dell’Antonia, editor New York Times Motherlode blog, and author of How to Be a Happier Parent Inspired by her popular New York Times article, “How Honesty Could Make You Happier,” award-winning journalist Judi Ketteler takes a deep dive into the hard truths about honesty, from the personal to the political . . . We’re incensed by politicians who lie and corporations that cheat, but when it comes to our own honesty choices, we often barely notice. So, what happens when we do notice? Judi Ketteler thought of herself as an honest person. And yet, she knew it wasn’t the whole story . . . How often was Judi engaging in the same dishonest behavior she was condemning in others? To answer that question, she started her “Honesty Journal,” and set out to confront her perennial fear of speaking the truth in a range of situations—including with friends, her kids, and even inside her complicated marriage. The result is a timely consideration of the joys and pains of truth in a world that seems committed to lying. “Great for generating discussion on the subject of authenticity and thinking through tough questions.” —Library Journal “Would I Lie to You? is filled with so many fresh insights and proactive solutions that it could pass for a masterclass on honesty.” —Camille Pagán, bestselling author of I’m Fine and Neither Are You “Candor, humor, and wry guidance for developing positive, forthright relationships with ourselves and others.” —Foreword Magazine
