Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides guidance to States authorized to establish water quality standards under the Clean Water Act to protect aquatic life from acute & chronic effects of cadmium. Cadmium is a relatively rare element that is a minor nutrient for plants at low concentrations, but is toxic to aquatic life at concentrations only slightly higher. It occurs mainly as a component of minerals in the earth's crust but can enter the environment from various anthropogenic sources, such as by-products from zinc refining, coal combustion, mine wastes, electroplating processes, iron & steel prod'n., pigments, fertilizers & pesticides. This report discusses acute & chronic cadmium toxicity to freshwater & saltwater animals; toxicity to aquatic plants; bio-accumulation; & nat. criteria. Charts & tables.
Book Synopsis Cadmium in the Aquatic Environment by : Jerome O. Nriagu
Download or read book Cadmium in the Aquatic Environment written by Jerome O. Nriagu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1987-08-12 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a comprehensive account of current research on the chemistry and toxicology of cadmium in natural waters. Discusses the sources, distribution, and fate of cadmium in aquatic ecosystems, including coverage of the biocycling and exotoxicity of cadmium to materia and fresh water biota. A succinct review of the analytical chemistry of cadmium in natural waters is also included. The contributors emphasize general principles rather than comprehensive documentation, making this volume accessible to a wide audience. The technical information helps provide the scientific rationale needed in the continuing effort to establish water quality criteria and standards for cadmium.

Download or read book Water Quality for Ecosystem and Human Health written by Geneviève M. Carr and published by UNEP/Earthprint. This book was released on 2008 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is intended to provide an overview of the major components of surface and ground water quality and how these relate to ecosystem and human health. Local, regional and global assessments of water quality monitoring data are used to illustrate key features of aquatic environments, and to demonstrate how human activities on the landscape can influence water quality in both positive and negative ways. Clear and concise background knowledge on water quality can serve to support other water assessments.

This book was released on 2018-07-19 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquatic Life Criteria - Cadmium in Oregon (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Aquatic Life Criteria - Cadmium in Oregon (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is establishing a federal Clean Water Act (CWA) aquatic life criterion for freshwaters under the state of Oregon's jurisdiction, to protect aquatic life from the effects of exposure to harmful levels of cadmium. In 2013, EPA determined that the freshwater acute cadmium criterion and freshwater acute and chronic copper criteria that Oregon adopted in 2004 did not meet CWA requirements to protect aquatic life in the state. Since that time, the state adopted revised criteria for copper (which EPA is approving in parallel with this final rulemaking), but has not adopted a revised acute criterion for cadmium and thus EPA is establishing a federal freshwater acute criterion for cadmium that takes into account the best available science, EPA policies, guidance and legal requirements, to protect aquatic life uses in Oregon. This book contains: - The complete text of the Aquatic Life Criteria - Cadmium in Oregon (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

Download or read book Water Quality written by Claude E. Boyd and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is of great importance to humans and other living organisms. The study of water quality draws information from a variety of disciplines including chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics, engineering, and resource management. University training in water quality is often limited to specialized courses in engineering, ecology, and fisheries curricula. This book also offers a basic understanding of water quality to professionals who are not formally trained in the subject. The revised third edition updates and expands the discussion, and incorporates additional figures and illustrative problems. Improvements include a new chapter on basic chemistry, a more comprehensive chapter on hydrology, and an updated chapter on regulations and standards. Because it employs only first-year college-level chemistry and very basic physics, the book is well-suited as the foundation for a general introductory course in water quality. It is equally useful as a guide for self-study and an in-depth resource for general readers.
