This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study was undertaken with an overall objective of assessment of food consumption pattern, calorie and nutrient derivation. In Tumakuru district of Karnataka state, primary data were collected from 120 rural households. The rural households inadequately consumed proteins, milk and milk products. In terms of vegetables, fruits and egg and meat consumption, they were severely inadequate. Among the nutrients intake, the households were inadequate in fats, iron, riboflavin, niacin and carotene intake. The subsidized food items through PDS had greatly helped in attainment of calorie security but had severely lacked in terms of providing balanced diet security. In the presence of food subsidy, share of total expenditure on food was 67.24 per cent among AAY farm households and 59.98 per cent among BPL farm households, which would rise to 75.16 per cent and 65.62 per cent, respectively in the absence of food subsidy. In the presence of food subsidy, proportion of income saved was 30.72 per cent among AAY farm households and 24.19 per cent among BPL farm households, which would decrease to 8.65 per cent and 11.76 per cent, respectively in the absence of food subsidy. In the presence of food subsidy, the vulnerability to food insecurity of AAY farm, AAY non-farm and BPL non-farm households reduced significantly. The optimized food expenditure per consumptive unit per day for major nutrients and all nutrients was Rs. 34.49 and Rs. 36.56 respectively. The food basket of rural households needs to be expanded to ensure nutritional security.

Download or read book Beyond the Representative Agent written by Mauro Gallegati and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors argue for an approach to economic analysis which regards the economy as an interactive system with heterogenous agents and not a system which treats aggregates as some representative individual. They then apply this approach to macro- and micro-analyses including monetary policy and firms, technological innovation and the insider-outsider model. They find that this approach proves more fruitful in explaining empirical phenomena than much of the existing theory.

Book excerpt: Subsistence and Survival: Rural Ecology in the Pacific covers the ecology of man's environment, man's use and perception of biological resources, and the physiology and health of the human organism itself. The geographical range of this text extends from the glaciated uplands of Papua New Guinea, through the montane forests and grasslands of the Highlands, into the coastal jungles, and across to the smaller islands and atolls of the South West Pacific. This book is organized into five parts encompassing 14 chapters. The first part deals with the theory and applications of human ecology. The next part considers first the International Biological Program in New Guinea concerning the link between human ecology and biomedical research. This part also explores the nutritional adaptation among the Enga and in Melanesia, and then introduces the principles of environmental health engineering as human ecology. The subsequent two parts highlight the impact of human activities on the environment, with an emphasis on the association between environmental exploitation and human subsistence. The final part discusses the relevance of self-subsistence communities for world ecosystem management. This book will be of great value to anthropologists, geographers, human biologists, nutritionists, botanists, and public health engineers.
