Book Synopsis Urban Microclimate Modelling for Comfort and Energy Studies by : Massimo Palme
Download or read book Urban Microclimate Modelling for Comfort and Energy Studies written by Massimo Palme and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses urban microclimate and heat-related risks in urban areas, brought on by the combination of global climate change effects and local modification of climate determined by extensive urbanization such as the ‘Urban heat island’ phenomenon. This matter is relevant to almost all urbanized areas in the world, where the increase of urban population and air temperature is expected to endanger both the overall health of the population and the energy supply for the functioning of urban systems. The book details the inter-relationship between urban morphology, microclimate and building energy performance and presents a multidisciplinary approach that brings together Urban Climatology, Engineering and Architectural knowledge to support the development of reliable models and tools for research and practice. This book is a useful tool for architects and building energy modelers, urban planners and geographers who need a practical guide to realize basic urban microclimate simulation for use in both academic research and planning practice.

Book Synopsis Visual Informatics: Bridging Research and Practice by : Halimah Badioze Zaman
Download or read book Visual Informatics: Bridging Research and Practice written by Halimah Badioze Zaman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-11-14 with total page 938 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visual informatics is a field of interest not just among the information technology and computer science community, but also other related fields such as engineering, me- cal and health informatics and education starting in the early 1990s. Recently, the field is gaining more attention from researchers and industry. It has become a mul- disciplinary and trans-disciplinary field related to research areas such as computer vision, visualization, information visualization, real-time image processing, medical image processing, image information retrieval, virtual reality, augmented reality, - pressive visual mathematics, 3D graphics, multimedia-fusion, visual data mining, visual ontology, as well as services and visual culture. Various efforts has been - vested in different research, but operationally, many of these systems are not pro- nent in the mass market and thus knowledge and research on these phenomena within the mentioned areas need to be shared and disseminated. It is for this reason that the Visual Informatics Research Group from Universiti - bangsaan Malaysia (UKM) decided to spearhead this initiative to bring together experts in this very diversified but important research area so that more concerted efforts can be undertaken not just within the visual informatics community in Malaysia but from other parts of the world, namely, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and USA. This first International Visual Informatics Conference (IVIC 2009) was conducted collaboratively, by the visual informatics research community from the various public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, and hosted by UKM.

Book Synopsis Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants by : German Ardul Munoz-Hernandez
Download or read book Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants written by German Ardul Munoz-Hernandez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-13 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroelectric power stations are a major source of electricity around the world; understanding their dynamics is crucial to achieving good performance. The electrical power generated is normally controlled by individual feedback loops on each unit. The reference input to the power loop is the grid frequency deviation from its set point, thus structuring an external frequency control loop. The book discusses practical and well-documented cases of modelling and controlling hydropower stations, focused on a pumped storage scheme based in Dinorwig, North Wales. These accounts are valuable to specialist control engineers who are working in this industry. In addition, the theoretical treatment of modern and classic controllers will be useful for graduate and final year undergraduate engineering students. This book reviews SISO and MIMO models, which cover the linear and nonlinear characteristics of pumped storage hydroelectric power stations. The most important dynamic features are discussed. The verification of these models by hardware in the loop simulation is described. To show how the performance of a pumped storage hydroelectric power station can be improved, classical and modern controllers are applied to simulated models of Dinorwig power plant, that include PID, Fuzzy approximation, Feed-Forward and Model Based Predictive Control with linear and hybrid prediction models.

Book Synopsis Wind Farm by : Gastón Orlando Suvire
Download or read book Wind Farm written by Gastón Orlando Suvire and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades, increase in electricity demand and environmental concern resulted in fast growth of power production from renewable sources. Wind power is one of the most efficient alternatives. Due to rapid development of wind turbine technology and increasing size of wind farms, wind power plays a significant part in the power production in some countries. However, fundamental differences exist between conventional thermal, hydro, and nuclear generation and wind power, such as different generation systems and the difficulty in controlling the primary movement of a wind turbine, due to the wind and its random fluctuations. These differences are reflected in the specific interaction of wind turbines with the power system. This book addresses a wide variety of issues regarding the integration of wind farms in power systems. The book contains 14 chapters divided into three parts. The first part outlines aspects related to the impact of the wind power generation on the electric system. In the second part, alternatives to mitigate problems of the wind farm integration are presented. Finally, the third part covers issues of modeling and simulation of wind power system.
