Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two new fields have recently appeared: mobile ad hoc networks and sensor networks. The emergence of these very promising systems is mainly due to great technological progress in the field of wireless communication protocols; these will make it possible to offer a broad range of new applications in both civilian and militarian domains. The inherent characteristics of these systems imply new challenges. This book deals with several relevant fields related to the evolution of these spontaneous and self-organized networks. The authors tackle critical problems such as the design of unicast/multicast routing protocols, the support of the quality of service, the security mechanisms for routing and data transmission, the service discovery, the techniques of clustering/self-organization, the mobility of code and the fault-tolerance techniques. The discussion adopts an analysis-oriented approach which aims to cover the current cutting-edge aspects of these fields and to highlight some potential future development, making it essential reading for anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of these exciting new areas.

Download or read book Ad Hoc Networks written by Shiwen Mao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-01-23 with total page 927 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad hoc networks refer to the wireless networking paradigm that covers a variety of network forms for specific purposes, such as mobile ad hoc networks, sensor n- works, vehicular networks, underwater networks, underground networks, personal area networks, and home networks. The various forms of ad hoc networks promise a broad scope of applications in civilian, commercial, and military areas, which have led to significant new research problems and challenges, and have attracted great efforts from academia, industry, and government. This unique networking paradigm neces- tates re-examination of many established wireless networking concepts and protocols, and calls for developing new fundamental understanding of problems such as interf- ence, mobility, connectivity, capacity, and security, among others. While it is ess- tial to advance theoretical research on fundamentals and practical research on efficient algorithms and protocols, it is also critical to develop useful applications, experim- tal prototypes, and real-world deployments to achieve a practical impact on our so- ety for the success of this networking paradigm. The annual International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks (AdHocNets) is a new event that aims at providing a forum to bring together researchers from academia as well as practitioners from industry and government to meet and exchange ideas and recent research work on all aspects of ad hoc networks. As the first edition of this event, AdHocNets 2009 was successfully held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, during September 22–25, 2009.

Book Synopsis Wireless Sensor Networks by : Mohamed Ibnkahla
Download or read book Wireless Sensor Networks written by Mohamed Ibnkahla and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With classical techniques for data transmission soon reaching their limitations, cognitive approaches may offer a solution to user requirements for better coverage, connectivity, security, and energy efficiency at lower cost. Wireless Sensor Networks: A Cognitive Perspective presents a unified view of the state of the art of cognitive approaches in telecommunications. A benchmark in the field, it brings together research that has previously been scattered throughout conference and journal papers. Cutting-Edge Topics in Cognitive Communications After a review of the cognitive concept and approaches, the book outlines a generic architecture for cognition in wireless sensor networks. It then targets specific issues that need to be addressed through cognition, from cognitive radio and spectrum access to routing protocols. The book also explores how to use weighted cognitive maps to improve network lifetime through optimizing routing, medium access, and power control while fulfilling end-to-end goals. The final chapter discusses the implementation of hardware for GPS/INS-enabled wireless sensor networks. This addresses an important need for real-time node position information in many wireless sensor network applications and communication protocols. Real-World Applications of Wireless Sensor Networks using the Cognitive Concept Written in a tutorial style, the book supplies an in-depth survey of each topic, accompanied by detailed descriptions of the algorithms and protocols. It also provides a step-by-step analysis of the various communications systems through extensive computer simulations and illustrations. Examples cover environmental monitoring, vehicular communications, tracking, and more. A comprehensive overview of cognitive communications in wireless sensor networks, this work lays the foundations for readers to participate in a new era of research in this emerging field.
