Download or read book The Journal Book written by Toby Fulwiler and published by Heinemann Educational Publishers. This book was released on 1987 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this book journals are seen in every situation and from every angle, as if mounted on a slow turntable under a spotlight. The conclusion of most of the teachers and students using them is that they get people thinking, they help them test their own experience against the ideas of many others-- the authorities they're studying, their teachers, their fellow students ... The payoffs from using journals in classrooms are here shown to be astounding. Students learn from making mistakes and half-forming ideas. They learn to think, not by doing exercises in a faddish "critical thinking" textbook, but by working their way through real questions, with real interest and real intent"--Back cover.

Book Synopsis Zamumo's Gifts by : Joseph M. Hall, Jr.
Download or read book Zamumo's Gifts written by Joseph M. Hall, Jr. and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-05-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1540, Zamumo, the chief of the Altamahas in central Georgia, exchanged gifts with the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto. With these gifts began two centuries of exchanges that bound American Indians and the Spanish, English, and French who colonized the region. Whether they gave gifts for diplomacy or traded commodities for profit, Natives and newcomers alike used the exchange of goods such as cloth, deerskin, muskets, and sometimes people as a way of securing their influence. Gifts and trade enabled early colonies to survive and later colonies to prosper. Conversely, they upset the social balance of chiefdoms like Zamumo's and promoted the rise of new and powerful Indian confederacies like the Creeks and the Choctaws. Drawing on archaeological studies, colonial documents from three empires, and Native oral histories, Joseph M. Hall, Jr., offers fresh insights into broad segments of southeastern colonial history, including the success of Florida's Franciscan missionaries before 1640 and the impact of the Indian slave trade on French Louisiana after 1699. He also shows how gifts and trade shaped the Yamasee War, which pitted a number of southeastern tribes against English South Carolina in 1715-17. The exchanges at the heart of Zamumo's Gifts highlight how the history of Europeans and Native Americans cannot be understood without each other.

Even today, his voting rights address of 1965 ranks high not only in political significance, but also as an example of leadership through oratory.

Book Synopsis Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 2023: Diagnosis, Clinical Course, and Surgical Management of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer by : Aldo Rocca
Download or read book Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 2023: Diagnosis, Clinical Course, and Surgical Management of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer written by Aldo Rocca and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-10-24 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and at Frontiers in Oncology we want to highlight the recent discoveries in the field and raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis, multidisciplinary management, and technological innovation support. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide and represents one of the most relevant challenges for present and future global health, with 50 % of patients affected by CRC developing metastasis. Despite the introduction of novel therapeutic approaches and anticancer drugs, colorectal metastatic cancer (mCRC) continue to have a poor prognosis. In the last years, the extensive investigation on biomarkers that could identify patients at high risk for metastasis and predict the response to therapies has deeply impacted the therapeutic approaches to patients with mCRC. The most established biomarkers for mCRC are microsatellite instability (MSI) or mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR), HER2 amplification, RAS/BRAF mutations, and sidedness. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been extensively used to treat patients with microsatellite unstable or mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) CRC, while patients harboring a BRAFV600E mutation benefit from combination therapy with chemotherapy and immunotherapy drugs. The success of biomarker-driven patient selection to improve the therapeutic response and the overall survival of patients with mCRC highlights the imperative need for further research to identify novel biomarkers for better patient-tailored therapy.
Book Synopsis The Early History of the Lutheran Church in Georgia by : Hermann Winde
Download or read book The Early History of the Lutheran Church in Georgia written by Hermann Winde and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with the immigration of the "Georgia Salzburgers," religious exiles from Europe, The Early History of the Lutheran Church in Georgia tells a story of faith and struggle that is deeply embedded in the religious and cultural life of the American colonial South. Previously unpublished and untranslated, Hermann Winde's dissertation laid the foundation for a limited group of scholars and specialists who have continued to develop that story for over four decades. Now, both the detail that emerges through Winde's primary sources and the breadth of the connections he makes across colonial Georgia's geographical and cultural landscape will continue to appeal to scholars and general readers alike as they enter the world of Georgia's first Lutheran communities.
