Book excerpt: Willie G. Davidson likes to say that he was born with gasoline in his veins and a crayon in each hand. A designer at heart, Davidson combined his passions for art and motorcycles to extend a multi-generational unbroken thread from Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company’s birth in a wooden shed in the early twentieth century to today. The grandson of one of the company’s founders and the son of one of its longtime presidents, Davidson created a series of iconic designs that defined Harley-Davidson “factory custom” bikes and cemented its standing as the premier motorcycle company in the world. Davidson was instrumental in saving the company from bankruptcy and then helping it explode into a global phenomenon. For more than five decades, Davidson was more than a namesake of the founders; he was the heart and soul of Harley-Davidson and a personal connection to millions of riders around the world who knew him simply as "Willie G." Throughout his life Davidson has embodied a close-to-the-customer relationship, by attending motorcycle rallies, rides, and races with his late wife, Nancy, the “First Lady of Motorcycling,” and son and daughter Bill and Karen Davidson who recently joined their famous parents by being inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame and play key roles in the Motor Company today. In Ride Free, Davidson recounts his memories of family, relationships, and events that defined his extraordinary life and legacy of power, passion, and purpose. Davidson gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at the planning, design, and conception of legendary bikes that inspired millions of riders over the past half-century; stories of his unforgettable rides around the world; the people he encountered while navigating thousands of miles on the roads; and the legacy that he and his family have created which will carry on the most famous name in motorcycles.

Book excerpt: This document's purpose is to spell out the Church's understanding of the nature of revelation--the process whereby God communicates with human beings. It touches upon questions about Scripture, tradition, and the teaching authority of the Church. The major concern of the document is to proclaim a Catholic understanding of the Bible as the "word of God." Key elements include: Trinitarian structure, roles of apostles and bishops, and biblical reading in a historical context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We should serve God by using our gifts, talents, and other resources to add value to the lives of others to the glory of the Lord. It is very important for us to strive with all our might to offer excellent service to God in whatever capacity and do so with cheerful hearts. Everything we do in the service of God, plus how we do it, decides the level of honor and influence we will enjoy in our destinies. I believe it also determines the level of divine favors we will walk in here on earth. Serving in excellence is our highway to honor and distinction. “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor” (John 12:26). The main point, however, is that it is not enough just to serve God. Your service must be of a level of excellence. Nothing less will do. Service to God is commendable, but that is not enough. Your service must be honorable. In this way, your gifts and offerings must honor him. “Therefore the LORD, the God of Isreal, declares: ‘I promised that your house and your father’s house would minister before me forever.’ But now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained’” (1 Samuel 2:30). If you cut corners in carrying out divine assignments, don’t expect the best from God. Have a big heart for God. “The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods” (2 Chronicles 2:5). If you want to experience the glory of God in your life, go all out in your sacrifices. Be an extremist in your excellence service to him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The co-founder and longtime president of Pixar updates and expands his 2014 New York Times bestseller on creative leadership, reflecting on the management principles that built Pixar’s singularly successful culture, and on all he learned during the past nine years that allowed Pixar to retain its creative culture while continuing to evolve. “Might be the most thoughtful management book ever.”—Fast Company For nearly thirty years, Pixar has dominated the world of animation, producing such beloved films as the Toy Story trilogy, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Up, and WALL-E, which have gone on to set box-office records and garner eighteen Academy Awards. The joyous storytelling, the inventive plots, the emotional authenticity: In some ways, Pixar movies are an object lesson in what creativity really is. Here, Catmull reveals the ideals and techniques that have made Pixar so widely admired—and so profitable. As a young man, Ed Catmull had a dream: to make the first computer-animated movie. He nurtured that dream as a Ph.D. student, and then forged a partnership with George Lucas that led, indirectly, to his founding Pixar with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter in 1986. Nine years later, Toy Story was released, changing animation forever. The essential ingredient in that movie’s success—and in the twenty-five movies that followed—was the unique environment that Catmull and his colleagues built at Pixar, based on philosophies that protect the creative process and defy convention, such as: • Give a good idea to a mediocre team and they will screw it up. But give a mediocre idea to a great team and they will either fix it or come up with something better. • It’s not the manager’s job to prevent risks. It’s the manager’s job to make it safe for others to take them. • The cost of preventing errors is often far greater than the cost of fixing them. • A company’s communication structure should not mirror its organizational structure. Everybody should be able to talk to anybody. Creativity, Inc. has been significantly expanded to illuminate the continuing development of the unique culture at Pixar. It features a new introduction, two entirely new chapters, four new chapter postscripts, and changes and updates throughout. Pursuing excellence isn’t a one-off assignment but an ongoing, day-in, day-out, full-time job. And Creativity, Inc. explores how it is done.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspirations of the Heart is a series of inspirational poetry and inspirational wisdom that through the years has helped keep me alive and loving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and in return, I learned through it to love on others without cause or reason. Inspiration of the Heart is where many of my lost battles fall, through attempting suicide, losing a prospering business three times, through the lose of several homes and cars and many jobs, I needed an avenue of surrender to keep me on track. I didn't have a dominion power moment, even after I was ordained, I still didn't have a dominion power moment, it took 20 years to get to the place where I could even begin to explore the idea that even I could go after God full throttle, it took almost twenty years for me to find out that I could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, life is good, and I'm excited about it now, back in the day, all I could think about was death, I didn't want that, but, I was so depressed about just about everything, as soon as things would get going good, everything would fall apart, but all of that was a part of who I was becoming, not who I was. there was a lot that I too needed to learn, and it is still a learning in progress for me. I had many chances for relationships, and many of them ended in hate related objectives that later turned back into friendship, my life is odd in the least of saying, but through it all, God is still good. My life now is still not a dream, I don't have it made in the shade or anything like that, I still work two jobs, and try to write too, I have a house, two cars, two cats, a wife, and a son to keep up with, and keeping everything in perspective is how I make it through each and every single day, and Inspirations of the heart is one of the tools that I use to help me along the way.
