Book Synopsis Imaging Measurement Methods for Flow Analysis by : Wolfgang Nitsche
Download or read book Imaging Measurement Methods for Flow Analysis written by Wolfgang Nitsche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-08 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2003 the German Research Foundation established a new priority programme on the subject of “Imaging Measurement Methods for Flow Analysis” (SPP 1147). This research programme was based on the fact that experimental ?ow analysis, in addition to theory and numerics, has always played a predominant part both in ?ow research and in other areas of industrial practice. At the time, however, c- parisons with numerical tools (such as Computational Fluid Dynamics), which were increasingly used in research and practical applications, soon made it clear that there are relatively few experimental procedures which can keep up with state-of-the-art numerical methods in respect of their informative value, e.g. with regard to visu- spatial analysis or the dynamics of ?ow ?elds. The priority programme “Imaging Measurement Methods for Flow Analysis” was to help close this development gap. Hence the project was to focus on the investigation of ef?cient measurement me- ods to analyse complex spatial ?ow ?elds. Speci?c cooperations with computer sciences and especially measurement physics were to advance ?ow measurement techniques to a widely renowned key technology, exceeding the classical ?elds of ?uid mechanics by a long chalk.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to the description of the physical fundamentals of laser refractography—a novel informational-measuring technique for the diagnostics of optically inhomogeneous media and flows, based on the idea of using spatially structured probe laser radiation in combination with its digital recording and c- puter techniques for the differential processing of refraction patterns. Considered are the physical fundamentals of this technique, actual optical schemes, methods of processing refraction patterns, and possible applications. This informational technique can be employed in such areas of science and technology as require remote nonperturbative monitoring of optical, thermophysical, chemical, aerohydrodynamic, and manufacturing processes. The monograph can also be recommended for students and postgraduates of - formational, laser, electro-optical, thermophysical, chemical, and other specialties. Laser refractography is a conceptually novel refraction method for the diagn- tics of inhomogeneous media, based on the idea of using spatially structured probe laser radiation in combination with its digital recording and computer techniques for the differential processing of refraction patterns.

Download or read book Hermann Schlichting – 100 Years written by Rolf Radespiel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hermann Schlichting is one of the internationally leading scientists in the field of th fluid mechanics during the 20 century. He contributed largely to modern theories of viscous flows and aircraft aerodynamics. His famous monographies Boundary Layer Theory and Aerodynamics of Aircraft are known worldwide and they appeared in six languages. He held Chairs of Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics at Technische U- versität Braunschweig during 37 years and directed the Institute of Aerodynamics of the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Luftfahrt in Braunschweig. He also directed the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt Göttingen and served in the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center (DFVLR). Hermann Schlichting played a leading role in the rebuilding of aerospace research in Germany after the Second World War. th The occasion of his 100 birthday in the year 2007 was an excellent opportunity to acknowledge important ideas and accomplishments that Hermann Schlichting c- tributed to science. The editors of this volume are the present successors of Hermann Schlichting in his role as director of the two research institutes in Braunschweig. We were glad to host a scientific colloquium in his honor on 28 September 2007. Invited former scholars of Hermann Schlichting reviewed his work in boundary layer theory and in aircraft aerodynamics followed by presentations of important research results of his institutes today.

Download or read book Smart Graphics written by Andreas Butz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-08-20 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, artists and designers have been creating communicative graphics. With the advent of new forms of media, the emergence of paradigms such as ubiquitous computing, and the rapid evolution of interaction devices, there is a continuous cycle of renewal of the technologies and methods to support artists, interaction designers and developers. Developingnewapproachesrequiresanunderstandingofthe fundamentals of perception and cognition as they relate to interaction and communication te- nologies, together with arti?cial intelligence and computer graphics techniques to automate reasoning and enhance cognition. Smart Graphics is in essence an interdisciplinary endeavor and brings together the ?elds of computer graphics, arti?cial intelligence, cognitive science, graphic design and ?ne art. The International Symposium on Smart Graphics 2008 was held on August 27–29 in Rennes, France. It was the ninth event in a series which originally started in 2000 as an American Association for Arti?cial Intelligence Spring Symposium and has taken place every year since then. Due to the high quality of the papers submitted this year, the ProgramCommittee decided to accept 17 fullpapers(insteadoftheusual15),9shortpapersand3systemdemonstrations. The acceptance rate for full papers was 34%. This year’s meeting included a discussion as to the nature of the shape, contentandfutureoftheevent.Representativesfromdi?erentcommunitieswere invitedtogivetheiropinions, andtheorganizingcommitteewouldliketowarmly thank them here. Such questions as the ongoing viability of the symposium and theconsequencesofco-locatingSmartGraphicswithotherlargerresearchevents led to interesting debates and have prepared the groundwork for what could be the future of the Smart Graphics conference series.

Book Synopsis Hypersonic Missile Nonproliferation by : Richard H. Speier
Download or read book Hypersonic Missile Nonproliferation written by Richard H. Speier and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2017 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic missiles--specifically hypersonic glide vehicles and hypersonic cruise missiles--are a new class of threat because they are capable both of maneuvering and of flying faster than 5,000 kilometers per hour. These features enable such missiles to penetrate most missile defenses and to further compress the timelines for a response by a nation under attack. Hypersonic missiles are being developed by the United States, Russia, and China. Their proliferation beyond these three could result in other powers setting their strategic forces on hair-trigger states of readiness. And such proliferation could enable other powers to more credibly threaten attacks on major powers. The diffusion of hypersonic technology is under way in Europe, Japan, Australia, and India--with other nations beginning to explore such technology. Proliferation could cross multiple borders if hypersonic technology is offered on world markets. There is probably less than a decade available to substantially hinder the potential proliferation of hypersonic missiles and associated technologies. To this end, the report recommends that (1) the United States, Russia, and China should agree not to export complete hypersonic missile systems or their major components and (2) the broader international community should establish controls on a wider range of hypersonic missile hardware and technology.
